How is GenAI shaping – and being shaped by –Learning & Development?
That was the focus of last week’s Ask & Share session hosted in our L&D Studio community.
This time, our conversation centered around two powerful angles:
💡 How GenAI is transforming the L&D function – benefits, risks, and what’s ahead
🧠 How L&D can empower people to confidently and critically use GenAI in their work
We were thrilled to attend and facilitate a conversation among:
- Alexandros Vafeiadis, and
who had a vivid, thought-provoking exchange — sharing personal experiences, bold viewpoints, and a glimpse into the projects they’re working on.
Here are some key takeaways from the discussion:
1️⃣ AI for L&D – Benefits, Risks & Emerging Perspectives
Key insight: GenAI offers game-changing opportunities for the L&D function — but the role of HR/L&D professionals remains central in shaping how it’s used.
✅ Efficiency gains: With smart prompt engineering, GenAI can support program design, speed up content development, and enhance evaluation processes.
✅ Microlearning made easy: GenAI enables the creation of powerful, bite-sized learning content tailored to learners’ needs.
⚠️ Critical thinking is a must: GenAI output must be curated, revised, and contextualized. Without human oversight, there’s a risk of spreading misinformation or irrelevant content.
⚠️ The role of HR/L&D must stay proactive: Professionals must define when and how GenAI is used, craft effective prompts, and integrate critical-thinking moments into learning journeys.
🔭 What’s ahead:
--The rise of prompt libraries, AI coaches, and custom bots for targeted L&D use
--Increasing automation of core L&D tasks by agentic AI
--A potential redefinition of L&D’s purpose and methods within organizations, with change management at the core
2️⃣ L&D for AI – Empowering People to Use GenAI Effectively
🔑 What’s required:
--A clear, organization-wide strategy for GenAI use
--Ongoing awareness-building and support in critical thinking and problem-solving
--Tailored approaches to reach diverse groups (e.g. blue-collar workers may need more support and human connection)
🎯 What works:
--Applied learning programs with hands-on GenAI use over time
--Communities of practice where peers model and share how they use GenAI
--Integrated learning tools built into workflows, offering real-time support
--Gamified learning to boost motivation and critical skills
Let’s keep these conversations going!
Here’s to more Ask & Share sessions — and to growing a strong, open, and future-ready HR & L&D community, within the L&D Studio and beyond!
