Tasos Giannaros

Tasos has been a beneficiary and later a collaborator of AELIA since 2017, leading the initiative “Poliochne Dialogues” on his island, Lemnos. Within the same project, he participated in the initiative “Digitally Connected from an Island - #DigiConnect” on the island of Amorgos, as well as in the relevant initiative on Kythnos island (preliminary needs analysis which led to the initiative for “Kythnos as a research spot for Architecture researchers”). He also serves as a mentor and tech consultant, leveraging his skills to identify potential problems and risks and provide innovative tech-driven solutions..

About Tasos

Tasos Giannaros is a researcher, computer engineer, and web developer currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics at the University of Patras. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Peloponnese and a Master's Degree in Data Driven Computing and Decision Making from the University of Patras (jointly offered by the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics and the Department of Mathematics). His passion about big data was established when he attended a summer school on Big Data Analytics at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 2017.

He is deeply involved in academia and research, having held reciprocal scholarships for doctoral research from the University of Patras and the Democritus University of Thrace. He actively participates in national, European, and international Research & Development projects, with a particular focus on AI, blockchain, digitisation of cultural heritage content, data analysis, and web applications development. He has (co-)authored numerous papers on recommendation systems, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies, data analysis, and e-learning web applications, his work having been published in peer-reviewed journals as well.

Since 2015, Tasos has amassed extensive experience as an ICT researcher, web developer and consultant, collaborating with esteemed Greek universities such as the University of Patras, University of Athens, and University of Peloponnese, as well as with research and technology organisations, startups, non-profit entities, and privately owned companies. From 2019 to 2021, he served as an EU Member State Expert at the Centre of International and European Economic Law. During this time, he was instrumental in transferring expertise on-site to enhance the institutional capacity of Azerbaijan's Intellectual Property Agency in managing and safeguarding intellectual property rights within digital networks.

In 2022, he co-founded Project Lighthouse, assuming the role of the organisation’s CTO. Through this initiative, he delivers high-quality tech consulting, implementation services, and IoT solutions, all while prioritising a profound social impact in every professional endeavor.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Tasos remains committed to social causes. He has volunteered for various organisations such as Bloode, Job Fair Athens, ThinkBiz Hellas, Panorama of Entrepreneurship & Career Development, and TEDxAcademy. In his leisure time, he enjoys immersing himself in story-driven video games and watching mystery movies with a supernatural twist.
